Arrrrrrrgh... tis color time

Arrrgh Mateys..... I have been pushing forward on my new series of shorts every day now. Above you can see some of the color keys and character concepts that I have been working on. I have also been creating the cast in Maya but I don't think I will post any pics of the modeled characters until they are all done. I find myself continuing to revise my previously completed models as the style of the short develops. I am really feeling the color key on the top right... any thoughts? Myself and three other talented co-workers meet every thursday for lunch to discuss and crit all of our projects. It has been really helpful and I feel that the story of my first has been developing into something great. The idea I have is to create a series of 30-45 sec animated shorts. I feel that by mastering that time frame will strengthen my story telling skills. Next post will hopefully have some more color concepts and maybe all the finished models. enjoy

Hey Rusty! I like that color key too. Why that one works and the other one doesn't as successfully is because the one on the top right has a warm color scheme. By limiting your palette to seemingly warm colors, it unifies the piece and gives it a feeling. By the looks of it, these are supposed to be really funny, so I think that works beautifully with what you've posted here. I'd love to see boards and to know what your story is!
